Grimsby Auxiliary

Marine Rescue unit

Membership Information

GAMRU only accepts new Volunteer Search and Rescue (SAR) Crew members between
September 1 and November 30 each year. You can submit an application at any time.
Interviews and information sessions will be held in August and September. Only
applicants considered for crew positions will be contacted. There is a $100 fee to

Successful applicants will be placed on probation until April 30 the following year.
At that time, the unit will determine if you meet the requirements for membership,
and if successful your application will be submitted to the Canadian Coast Guard

Support members may join any time but are not eligible to be placed on a rescue
crew. Support members are very important to GAMRU as they help with various fund
raising initiatives. They are also welcome to participate in all social activities.
Support membership is suitable for those who would like to help out but cannot
commit to being on an active SAR crew.

If you are successful in obtaining a position as a SAR crew member you will receive
training for operating both of our rescue vessels. No experience is necessary. All
new crew members receive training to become Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary members.
Our Search and Rescue season ends in the Fall and new training sessions resume early
in the new year. As a new member you are required to take some specific courses
before being a fully active member. Most of these courses are offered during winter

New members are required to have a Pleasure Craft Operators Card prior to being
placed on a search and rescue crew.
